7 Reasons to Live in Mt. Pleasant
Formerly a destination of Charleston residents wealthy enough to afford summer homes across the river, Mt. Pleasant is now one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S.! What’s driving the popularity? Keep reading to find out the top 7 Reasons to live in Mt. Pleasant.
1. Ravenel Bridge
When you think of Charleston and it’s connecting communities, this is a skyline icon! Completed in 2005, this beautiful cable bridge over the Cooper River separates Mt. Pleasant from Downtown Charleston. A 2.5 mile walking path on the bridge provides a scenic route of Charleston Harbor. Every year the Cooper River Bridge Run attracts 40,000 people to this 10K race from Mt. Pleasant, over the bridge and finishes in downtown Charleston!
2. Beaches
Is it important to be close to a beach? How does 2 beaches sound to you? Mt. Pleasant connects to both Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms. So take your pick! Both islands are an inviting mix of wide beaches, history, local restaurants, and highly residential with breathtaking views from these beach dream homes. So whether you’re spending the day at the beach or vacationing for a week, you can get your sun, your fancy burger at the famous Poe’s Tavern and learn about Charleston history at Fort Moultrie.
3. Shopping
Although there aren’t any mega malls, Mt. Pleasant is home to multiple outdoor shopping centers, bringing you everything from Barnes & Noble and movie theatres to Lululemon and high-end boutiques. Mt. Pleasant is also home to the area’s ONLY Trader Joe’s!
4. Entertainment
We already talked about the beaches, so watersport activities are definitely a favorite in Mt. Pleasant. Shem Creek is a popular waterfront destination with a boardwalk accessing the best of the area’s food and drinks with panoramic views of the creek and friendly dolphins! Love more waterviews? Take a walk down Pitt St Bridge, Waterfront Park under the Ravenel Bridge, or one of many Plantations and county parks!
5. Schools
Families flock to Mt. Pleasant for some of the best public schools in the state. While maintaining a low property tax, your district public schools will not disappoint. With 6 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, now 2 high schools with the brand new Lucy Beckham high school opening this year, there are also many options in Montessori, private and faith-based programs that provide the perfect opportunities that fit your family.
6. Unique Neighborhoods
Because Mt. Pleasant is one of the newest areas to develop outside the city, you will find a great blend of old meets new in a high-end, well manicured suburban feel.
Old Village community is minutes away from downtown Charleston and the area’s oldest waterfront neighborhood. Driving thru today, you will see many of the original homes dating to the 1800’s along with iconic destinations like Pitt Street Pharmacy and top wedding location, Alahambra Hall.
Other standout communities that have distinguished themselves within Mt Pleasant are I’on Club with a southern meets European feel, multiple deepwater boating communities like Hobcaw Plantation, golf club neighborhoods like Rivertowne and Dunes West, and award winning planned communities with resort like amenities like Oyster Point and Carolina Park.
No matter what lifestyle you’re looking for, you will find it in Mt. Pleasant!
7. Food
No need to travel downtown for brunch or date night. Mt. Pleasant has SO many excellent local restaurants. From starting your day at Vicious Biscuits (get the Fat Boy!) to an authentic Italian sandwich for lunch at Joey Tomatoes to a fancy seafood dinner at Nico, Mt. Pleasant has every meal covered!
So that’s a wrap. Now you can see why it’s such a pleasant place to live that we had to call it Mt. Pleasant!
