Is North Charleston, South Carolina A Good Place To Live?

Kyle Blankenship • March 21, 2022

Over the last decade North Charleston has become a bustling extension of downtown Charleston. The addition of companies like Mercedes and Google setting up shop in the city has made this a popular area for families to call home. With an abundance of great shopping, good food and new communities, it's easy to see why this has become such a desirable location.

1. Charleston International Airport

As South Carolina’s largest and busiest airport, Charleston International now offers over 50 nonstop flights to cities across the country including west coast cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle as well as a direct international flight to London.  Living in North Charleston means you can still hit that snooze button a couple of times and make it to the airport in under 20 minutes.

2. Park Circle

Park Circle has quickly become one of the most popular destinations for locals and visitors alike over the last few years.  Lined with great restaurants, multiple breweries, an axe throwing bar and even a disc golf course, this walkable neighborhood will quickly become one of your favorite places to come visit.

3. Access to Beaches

Living in North Charleston will give you the opportunity to explore all of the beaches Charleston has to offer. Just a short drive east will bring you to Isle of Palms or Sullivan’s Island, or you can head west and explore Folly Beach. If you are looking for a more secluded beach experience you can head down to Seabrook or Kiawah Island.

4. North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center

The North Charleston Coliseum is a 13,000 seat multi-purpose facility that opened in 1993.  The Coliseum is the home ice of the South Carolina Stingrays hockey team and has hosted some of the biggest names in live entertainment, like Jimmy Buffet and Dave Matthews Band. The Performing Arts Center is a 2,300 seat theater that opened in 1999. It has hosted a variety of events including major concerts, ballets, symphonies and even Broadway musicals.

5. Access to Downtown

One of the best things about living in North Charleston is how close you are from the Historical Downtown Charleston. A quick drive down I-26 will put you in the heart of downtown Charleston where you can explore Rainbow Row, Marion Square and all of the fantastic food Charleston has to offer.
