Live, Work & Play In The Resort Style Community of Daniel Island, SC

Scott Kafka • May 12, 2022

It's time to shine the spotlight on the unique community of Daniel Island. Daniel Island is a small town resort community that makes every day feel like you're on vacation. With beautiful residential streets centrally located to a town center, Daniel Island is a pedestrian friendly community meant for those who desire an active lifestyle in a luxurious setting.

The self-sustaining ecosystem of this well-thought-out development makes it really difficult to find a reason to leave. You will most likely see more golf carts and bikes than cars traveling to one of the 20 well-manicured parks, schools, businesses or eateries, including Sermet's Courtyard for a sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine or my favorite, Blondies Bagels.

One of the most notable features of Daniel Island is the Daniel Island Club, where members have exclusive access to two nationally ranked private golf courses, a resort style swimming pool, fitness center and tennis courts. Daniel Island Club has been named among the nation's top golf clubs by Travel + Leisure Golf, Luxury Golf and Travel and Golf Magazine.

A newer, notable landmark is the Daniel Island Yacht Club. This mixed use space features condos with stunning waterfront views, two public docks, high end retail and restaurants, such as Kingstide, with rooftop bars all overlooking a brand new waterfront park.

What is there to do for entertainment, you ask? Well, let me tell you, you are just a golf cart away to the newly renovated and expanded Credit One Stadium. The stadium is host to the annual summer concert series showcasing your favorites like Hootie and the Blowfish, Kenny Chesney, O.A.R., Elton John and more. The Credit One Stadium is also home to the largest women's tennis tournament in the country. The Credit One Charleston Open, formerly known as the Volvo Car Open, has been hosted on Daniel Island annually since 2001 and it's always a crowd pleaser for residents and visitors alike.

The homes on Daniel Island range from cozy cottages nestled among the trees and marshes to jaw dropping estates designed and built by the area's top architects and custom home builders. Prior to 1996, Daniel Island was an undeveloped hunting ground. Over the last 24 years, the island has stylishly set itself apart from established communities around Charleston with an elegant, yet relaxed, feel.

Daniel Island strives to preserve its beauty, so each custom home design, commercial building, landscape and hardscape must be approved by an architectural review board to maintain the cohesive esthetics of the community. Daniel Island is composed of about 60% single family homes and 40% condos and townhomes at a population of 10,000 people. But when completed, the island is designed to accommodate 15,000 residents.

So what is the local job market like? Daniel Island is home to two of Charleston's largest technology employers. Blackbaud and Benefitfocus both have their campuses on the island and not only employ over 5,000 people, but account for the overall growth in technology and startup business expansion all over the region. And with its location, Daniel Island is centrally located to provide a quick commute to Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, West Ashley and downtown.

That's a wrap on our overview of Daniel Island. If you desire an all inclusive lifestyle the whole family can enjoy, this island paradise is calling your name.
